My iPod Nano won't TURN OFF

I am NOT a new user of the iPod Nano. When i hold in the "Play/Pause" button to make my iPod sleep, it does NOTHING. In fact, i have to reset my entire iPod Nano so that'll it will turn off or sometimes i just have to let it die for it to turn off. Any Help???

I am new to IPOD Nano, so hopefully I'm not telling you something you already know. I struggled with getting my IPOD to turn off too. It was hit or miss sometimes the IPOD would turn off and sometimes it wouldn't. Then when I visited the Apple store with a frozen screen problem the CSR showed me how to turn my IPOD off. Yes you press and hold the play/pause button, but you need to press and hold on the very bottom of the wheel.

also the frozen screen thing. You can unfreeze your IPOD by connecting to your computer system and then ejecting your IPOD. However, this isn't very friendly on the go, which is what happened to me. So the way to reset the IPOD withoput a computer follows. Slide the hold button to hold; wait 10 -15 seconds; slide it back off hold. then press and hold the center "select" button and the menu button at the same time - holding them down until the gray screen with the apple appears.

ok, so i have the EXACT opposite problem.
mine won't turn on.
i know i'm obviously in the wrong place.but i'm new with this online thing.NOT the ipod nano.
i've had problems with it before where if i would be playing a game on it too quickly it'd freeze up and i'd have to let it sit there for up to 6+ hours and let it die and then i learned how to unfreeze it.with the reset thing.with the menu and select button.
but please tell me how to turn it on or if anyone else has had this problem or where an apple store is or something!!!! Help me.i spent a lot of money on this.

Agreed, after restoring and resetting, the nano will not shut off. It stays on and even shows a full battery charge until it dies, as the others have stated, maybe 6 hours later. If it does shut off, after completely restoring it, it appears that something is still running as the battery discharges overnite. This is a new replacement for my first nano, that had battery issues late in its life as well. Oh well I never had any real issues when I used my PC and not this macbook. I will call Apple and see what they say. Later.

I bought a nano last summer and have repeatedly had this problem. Left on its own, supposedly turned off, the battery drains. I gave up using it for several months after finding no answer posted. Getting it out again this week, the nano drained dry twice with no use, and I am sad to see that others are still having similar problems.

Does someone official ever read these postings and help out?
