TV shows--some have mono sound, but which ones?
My dilemma has nothing to do with Windows. I have Windows machines but also plenty of Apple equipment: 2 iphones, 3 iPods, and an Airport Extreme--a mixed environment.
My confusion has to do with TV shows sold on the iTunes store: many of these episodes are in MONO sound, though Apple implies they are stereo. There's no way to tell from the store if you're downloading an episode that truly has stereo audio or not.
For example, many (perhaps all) South Park episodes are stereo. Whereas it seems all of the LOST episodes are mono. As far as 24 goes, Seasons 1-4 are stereo, Season 5 is mono, Season 6 is stereo. Go figure.
All the above applies both to previewing the episode online as well as watching them after purchase and download (whether in iTunes, Quicktime, or on the iPhone).
I have spent 5 hours so far with tech support people trying to get to the bottom of this. Everyone pretends it's not an issue. I can't find any info under Google either. I've tested it on 2 different machines, both logged on previewing episodes and after downloading, as well as on an iPhone. Always the same: certain episodes just have mono sound, period.
If anyone on Apple staff is out there listening, please consider looking into this. Not just for me and the money I'd like to spend on buying hundreds of TV shows from the store as well as purchasing an Apple TV, but for all the other consumers out there thinking they're getting stereo audio content and ending up with mono audio. Once you've purchased it, there's no way to get your money back.
And yes, I've already completely removed and reinstalled iTunes and Quicktime.
Now maybe I'm missing something--some strange windows setting or something. If so, I'd be the first to admit error.
Any information greatly welcome on this! I've spent 5 hours so far and would prefer not to have to put in more time on resolving this. If Apple wants to say "Hey, these TV show episodes are mono--sorry," that's no problem. Just tell me up front at the store...otherwise it's false advertising.
