Recording Virtual Instrument tracks with Logic Express

Hi all,
I have a probably silly problem, but I couldn't figure out the solution. I'm a Newbie with Logic and I really like it. What I am trying unsuccesfully to do is recording the output from a Virtual Instrument (a drum machine for example, I'm using Addictive Drums) on one track. Everything seem to work fine, I can hear it and the plugin works, but the R button disappears on the track with the VI, and so I am not able to record the output.
Can anybody help?

You don't need to record the audio until you want to have an audio file to remove the plugin.

Anyway if you want to transform a VI track into an audio track solo the track and bounce it.

that's what I need... having the audio file from the VI, because the song doesn't always follow the same drum beat... I need breaks, different beats etc. in the same song, that's why I was thinking to record audio files from the VI and place them in the parts of the song where I need them.
Will the bounce work for this? and if so (forgive my ignorance), how do I do it?

VI are "driven" by their MIDI track. You don't need to create audio to change the patterns.
You have to organize MIDI information into the Drums plugin track to have different patterns and fills.
I don't know addictive drums but, after a look at their site, it seems to me that you could manage this kind of things directly into that plugin.

Maybe you should read some documentation.

Well, the best way to do that is with MIDI data. You can record whatever part you want for each song as MIDI, and then, when you are done editing the MIDI part for that VI, you can then bounce it to turn it into an audio track.

thank you...
but can I record the VI output as MIDI on one track and put everything together there (fills, beats etc.)? So I can then transform that track in MIDI input for the VI, and I won't need to bounce anything anymore...
is it possible?

YES...

Think of MIDI as your friend, the notepad. Re-do part here. Easier, less complicated.

Think of the audio file as more of the final sound. In this case at least.
