Switching applications while playing a Keynote presentation

I read the Apple help document that gives instructions on how to pause a KeyNote presentation and hide it, opening the application that was last used before KeyNote -- and it's straightforward, though it's a pretty clumsy way to switch back and forth between a presentation and another app. In teaching with PowerPoint (eek!), I've become accustomed to switching back and forth between Ppt and ITunes (or other useful apps) with command-tab... but best as I can tell, command-tab doesn't work while a KeyNote presentation is running (??) -- any useful suggestions for streamlining the process, rather than having to type "H" and then clicking on the KeyNote icon on the dock each time? TIA,

Andrew

Command-Tab will indeed work if in the Keynote Slideshow Preferences you check the option "Allow Expose, Dashboard, and others to use screen".
