Wireless Keyboard GREEN LIGHT

What is the purpose of the GREEN LIGHT below the on/off slide switch on the reverse of the keyboard? What does it mean when it is flashing? (I couldn't find a keyboard manual with this information on the Apple support.) Thank you. Dale
