Deleting mail from my email server using the iPhone.

I checked out the iPhone email program on the iPhone. It was very easy to set up my personal email account. Retrieving, and reading emails was easy and beautiful. However, when I deleted the messages I had read, I could not figure out how to also delete them on my email server, which means, that when I come home to my main computer, my email program will again download all the messages I had already read and deleted.

I am curently using a Palm TX, which works just fine for email (text only). The convenient thing I can do is, that when I delete an email message on the Palm, I am presented with a choice to delete the email in question on the device only, or also on the server.

And when I have read all my emails, and empty my trash on the Palm, I am asked, if I want to sync with the email server, and delete the messages from the server also. So when I get home, I only have to deal with new messages and the messages I read before, but did not delete from the server.

I was told by a sales person at the Apple store, that this is how it is on the iPhone, and that you cannot delete messages on your email server from the iPhone.

Is that true, or is there a way to delete emails from the email server?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

On your iPhone go to...
Settings> Mail> Choose Your Mail Account> Advanced> Delete from server
It's at the bottom. You can choose Never, Seven says, or When removed from Inbox.
When removed from Inbox will remove it from your server when you delete it on your iPhone.

If this answers your question please mark it as answered. 🙂

Ok, are you sure you're looking at Delete from Server and not Remove?
The Remove option at the top has One day, One week, and One month.
The Delete from server option at the bottom has Never, Seven days, and When removed from Inbox.
You need to use the one that says Delete from server option and put it on When removed from Inbox.

I have the same issue. I'm using a comcast.net POP account and when I set Delete from server to "When removed from Inbox" then go back to check the setting, it has changed it back to "Never". I've deleted the account, I'm not syncing it to my Outlook account through iTunes, I added the account back manually through iPhone, and I've set my Outlook account through my PC to NOT keep messages on the server. I still can't get this to work. Any ideas????
Thanks!

Actually I created the account as a POP account, and I do have the option to Delete from server 'When removed from Inbox', but when I select that option, then go back later to check it, it has reverted back to 'Never'. I've tried deleting and re-adding the account manually. I've tried deleting the account and re-syncing the account through iTunes. Just can't get it to work.
