iPod in washing machine

Ok now I know you're all going to think I'm a numpty here but I accidentally washed my jeans and left my 8gb iPod nano in the pocket, now I've just connected it to the computer (after a quick blast from the hairdryer) and it seems to be working but the battery symbol at the top is just flashing green and grey and not going green like a status bar as it usually does when charging does this mean that it will no longer hold a charge? Please help I so need my iPod for the gym

please follow these steps ASAP

DO NOT connect your ipod tot he computer to charge ....even if you say you used a hair dryer to dry it......

Place the ipod onto a towel on a flat surface with the ipod controls towards the towel.

leave it sit for 2 weeks minimum...even if you used a hair dryer!

THen after that time you can try charging it. REcognize your mistake and if the ipod is not able to hold a charge or it is further damaged from the water it still is not covered under the warranty.

hope this helps

i had my 2GB iPod Nano in my bag at an amusement park--also my bottle of lotion was there...to make a long story short, after wiping down my iPod and thinking there was no damage, I come to find out that it keeps liting up thinking there's an attachment in the USB port (and when I plugged it in my computer, it said it doesnt recognize what's plugged it and that its malfuctioned)...The click wheel doesn't respond to my spinning and the hold button is doing nothing, also i cant even push the play button--or anything else for that matter.

no warranty/insurance...what should i do? Get it fixed or buy another (and probably better) one?

yeah i dont think there really is anything that you can do. I cant think of any way of removing the lotion. taking it apart voids your warranty. you certainly can get a new one and be more cautious with it. look at overstock or even on apples website they have refurbished ipods there.

at least your ipod is lotion soft :-D

Here one that you may not know and now I do . Mine went through the wash also this may get to be common . Even though they can't seem to make these things water proof . Get a bowl and pour white rice ( dry ) in and the place the ipod in it and and cover that up with even more rice and let it sit covered awhile.... 3 days or so . That will wick the moisture out of it . DO it ...DO it....

Hey, My mum put my ipod nano in the Washing machine!!!!!
It was dripping wet with wate rpouring out of all the sockets.
I tried using a hair dryer for about an hour but that didn't work so i left it in the airing cupboard for a couple of days, still didn't work.
I got my mum to buy me a new one! and put mine away. However, after about 3 months i tried it to see if it works and lowing behold YES IT DOES.
They dry out eventually and it works fine.
Best bet is to stick it somewhere warm and dry, not sure about the idea of rice though, but if it works could save you £160

Hi, I did what your mom did. My son was almost killing me.
But I was very clever, I did not only wash it, no I dryed it as well in the maschine. That was quite good, because it took us only 7 days and the iPod is working like the first day. The people at the help line of Apple did tell me, that I ruined the iPod and I have to buy a new one to my son. They would better recommend to dry it in the machine an wait for several days. Thats at least what I can recommend.

"""Dear mothers if you wash it, so please dry it as well!"""

Hi all

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the suggestions I'll try them out am going to the apple store on Saturday for my MacBook Pro and also ask their opinion on this issue. I also did just today buy a new 30gig iPod from Play.com for £149 so I think I've gotten a bargain there too so at least I'll have one iPod that works but hopefully my Nano will sort itself out too.

Cheers all

Dan
