I think there's a little confusion on the file extensions. Protected purchases from the store are .m4p & have always been ,m4p. The regular AAC format which you can rip your own CD's with in iTunes gives a file extension of .m4a. I suspect the files you are talking about are .m4a files. If this is the case, then what Meg suggested about converting to mp3 will work. One word of warning, converting directly from one Lossy format to another, (.m4a>,mp3) will cause a loss of audio quality. Only your ears can tell if this loss will be acceptable.
