MP4a what

When i did a I Tunes upgrade about a month ago some how it converted all my music files in I Tunes to a Mp4 and i cannot use any of the music any where else on my computer like i use to be able to windows media player cant use them they all are looking for MP3 please can some help me on what i can do to fix this problem

I think there's a little confusion on the file extensions. Protected purchases from the store are .m4p & have always been ,m4p. The regular AAC format which you can rip your own CD's with in iTunes gives a file extension of .m4a. I suspect the files you are talking about are .m4a files. If this is the case, then what Meg suggested about converting to mp3 will work. One word of warning, converting directly from one Lossy format to another, (.m4a>,mp3) will cause a loss of audio quality. Only your ears can tell if this loss will be acceptable.
