Help Please with Optonline - Mail

Hello,
I am having trouble setting up my e-mail withmy iphone. My e-mail accounts are with Cablevision's Optonline. does anyone know if i should choose:
1) IMAP, POP or Exchange?\
2) What is the host name for optonline incoming mail server (i have seen mail.optonline.net; mail.optonline.net:527)
3) What is the host name for optonline's outgoing mail server?

I appreciate the help - as you can tell, I am really lost.

this sounds like a question for optonline... i'm sure there's a setting up email help page over there.

You want Pop. But you will not be able to use OOL SMTP outgoing server(mail.optonline.net) on iPhone.

You can try using the ATT outgoing SMTP cwmx.com.

I use my web host smtp servers which works fine.

I helped someone with optonline use their laptop outside the optonline network, and the same thing should work for you with an iphone.

Incoming mail is POP, server is mail.optonline.net
Outgoing mail is mail.optonline.net:587, and you have to use your username and password from your optonline account in the outgoing settings.

Outgoing:

Click "advanced"
Make sure SSL is OFF
Make sure authentication is set to "password"

I have no idea what SSL is, but this worked for me

Just to be clear the user name and password fields are REQUIRED
