What is ducking?

Other than lowering your head so you don't get smacked...what is ducking?

Under the Control menu there is something called "ducking" that, when toggled on, adds some "up/down" arrows next to the track volumne slider. What is the purpose of these arrows?

Sorry, if this is a dumb question...I just noticed it and am curious.

There's no dumb questions! Ducking is an automatic lowering of the volume of one track when another comes in - so you can "duck" your music track when your voiceover starts.

However, there's no manual controls for that feature, and for my taste it fades in and out too abruptly, so I prefer manual fades using the volume curves.

I think I also prefer manual fading.
