Is there a red & blue 3d glasses filter?

Hi there,

I'd like to make a version of my film for use with red/blue 3d glasses. Is there a filter in FCP that will create the red/blue offset image look?

Thanks!

I've not seen a filter for FCP that does 3-d red/blue imagery.

Just for the record... slapping a red/blue s-d filter onto existing footage only creates a pseudo-3d image. It will have a 3d 'effect' and, as you say, it will 'look' 3d with your little glasses on, but it is not true stereoscopic imagery.

As Shane said, to create true 3d using the red/blue method, you need to film everything with 2 cameras (2 'eyes') positioned slightly apart.

not really. You can use a slate (clapper) or even just clap your hands in front of the camera to use to line up the two video clips. And you can shoot with 2 matching cameras at either end of the lens or in the case of more sophisticated cameras you can match the "zoom" amount. I've worked on productions with very sophisticated "stereoscopic" setups but we've also shot tests with a pair of dvx100's that turned out OK>

I've played with still stereoscopic images, and found that it was really easy to get the camera offsets too far apart... It varied on a per-scene basis, but it seemed like 4-6 inches was reasonable. I thought also about playing with "wiggle stereoscopy" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Stereowiggle3D.gif putting one camera on v1 the other on v2, then oscillating between the two.

I also got a lot of headaches trying to look at these images...

Actually, the best 3d effect for me is sort of a variation on the wiggle thing. You actually alternate frames, and you have lcd shutter glasses that actually alternate open states between the eyes. It requires synchronization with the video and a CRT but it's the best stereoscopic effect I've seen. I think this is what the early Imax theaters were using, but I suspect that prooved to be too expensive and breakable.
