BPM editing

If I am working on a music video, is there an easy way to create a snap to grid for BPM, or the tempo for a song. That way I can cut the video to the exact points of the song easily?

Gotta do this by ear.

That is, play the sequence and press Control-V to the beat. That will place red markers on your timeline as the sequence is playing, but once you stop, those markers become cuts. Be sure to have your AutoSelect buttons correct (that is, if you don't want cuts in master your audio, disable the AutoSelect buttons for those tracks).

One way to do this with a slug placed over your music piece on V1, then do the Control-V thing, then use Replace edits (F11) to drop in your new clips.

No more automated way than that - unless some 3rd party plug-in exists.

if i'm cutting to music, and want to have some form of cut/music sync going on, i use normal markers on the timeline... that is, play the music on the timeline, tap out a beat on the M key (not just a 4/4 beat, but pick out 16ths, or little rhythm changes) and then use those markers as a guide, skipping from one to another using shift+up/down arrows, and quickly adding a cut.

then, as Jim pointed out, you have the room on the timeline to extend shots over longer time etc, but always have a good beat/rhythm-guide using the markers.

you also start with an empty timeline and construct your video to a marked rhythm, rather than starting with a full timeline and de-constructing to the rhythm... if that makes sense.
