Your G4-MDD uses industry standard 5.25" ATAPI optical drives, so you're not limited to buying one from an Apple-oriented retailer. You'll find that most manufacturers don't indicate Mac compatibility, but that's because they don't have their R&D people testing them in Macs. Additionally, their retail boxed DVD burners don't include Mac burning software. Pioneer's DVD±RW drives are very compatible with Apple's disk burning programs, so you may want to check out this Pioneer 18x DVD burner.

I added an external DVD player...a Samsung ...it will burn a DVD with Roxio Toast just fine, but I don't seem to be able to use the DVD player application to play a movie.

Any idea on how to make it work?
