Songs not showing up in the same album

I just imported all of my music into iTunes. The problem is that many of the albums are splitting up into 2,3, or 4 albums with a few songs in each one. Is there a way to put them back all into the same album?
I checked the info on each song and made sure all the fields were exactly the same (except for track number and song title). All the songs say they are in the same album, but iTunes seperate them all as different albums, but all with the same names and info. What's up?

On the albums that split up...are they compilations with different artists? If so, do Get Info and id them as a compilation. Also, go under iTunes preferences and select Group Compilations When Browsing (under General).

In addition to the Album Artist field, the other thing to check is the "Sort Artist" field for consistency.

Thanks - very helpfull. But I wonder why not all songs seems to have e.g. same "album" title - even when I rember importing them from the very same source. Strange.
