Pink screen??

Hello,

It works all right, like I'm able to use it fine, but the screen has somehow gone pink. Anything that is supposed to be white is pink, and that's just about everything. Things that are grey or something, they have lines of pink in them. The text is green with shadows or a strange yellowish colour. Some colours are the same as they were - the buttons in Firefox are roughtly the same colour they always were - but all of this is very... almost pixalated, if you will, and it has that effect that looks like it's scrolling to the side all the time. I don't know what to do. This all happened randomly. It couldn't be due to the fact that I need a new battery, could it?

Anyway, if anyone has any help or tips or anything at all, please let me know. I really hope the solution isn't just to hook it up to another monitor. 😟

Welcome to Apple Discussions!

One thing to try would be to go to System Preferences>Displays>Color and try calibrating it. I don't know if this would cure the problem, but it's worth trying.

You could also run the Apple Hardware Test and see if anything shows up in the form of an error code.

The battery should not affect the display--I ran my iBook with just the power adaptor for a long time when my battery was recalled, and it did not affect the color of the display at all.

If nothing here helps, please post back. Others may have better suggestions.

Good luck!

Thanks very much for the response; however, I've tried both these things (I should have mentioned that in my initial question), and nothing seems to work.

If only I could show what the screen looks like, because it's very clear from looking at it that it's a technical problem, not just something going wrong with the colours in the system preferences or anything like that. It almost looks like someone dropped it, even though that's not the case.

If anyone else has any ideas, I'd be open to them...

I'm trying to think of information I can add here to make the problem more relevant. I recently bought and have been using a full screen, high resolution game on the computer. I don't see how this would affect anything either, as this isn't anything new. But you never know...

Thanks again, and to anyone else who answers my cry for help!

Sometimes people do post photos of their problems on one of the free photo sharing sites like Flickr ( http://www.flickr.com/) and then post a link. If you could find a way to take a picture or two of your display and post it, possibly someone could recognize the problem and advise you. When you do this, you might also give the name of the game, since there might be someone who is familiar with the game and any issues there might be with it. Did the problem start with the installation of the game or was it already there and became more obvious?

Unfortunately, I don't really have any more ideas--hopefully someone else does.

Good luck!

Thank you very much for your suggestion about the photos, but this is a very strange situation, as I just opened up my iBook to take photos of the screen, and like magic, the screen is back to normal.

I wish I knew how to explain this, but honestly, I've been doing nothing out of the ordinary with it since it turned pinkish.

But again though, thanks to both responses for the support. I guess this is semi-resolved?

Hi there,

I think that I have the same problem with my display. I'll try and describe it in my own words and maybe it'll help someone with solutions!

I have had this problem on and off for about 1 year now but as it keeps fixing itself I forget to follow it up.

Randomly my screen flips into "pink and green mode" where the white pats of the screen are pink and other contrasting parts are green. As said before some colours stay the way they should be. This problem sometimes lasts for a second and then rights itself, sometimes for longer. Sometimes it is still there after restarting, sometimes it goes away.

A little while ago, by chance I realised that when my display switched to screen saver the "pink and green" flickered and righted itself. I found that this worked every time and could fix the problem by using the screen saver hot corner. Obviously this is not ideal but for the short bouts of "pink and green" it was ok. However I have since reinstalled my os and have not got the same screen saver, today the pink and green came back and the screen saver trick didn't work. I'm gonna go and try to get the same screen saver but it seems unlikely that this is a real solution! I am inclined to think that it is just coincidence.

I'm guessing there must be more people out there with the same problem, it seems really specific too (specific colours/grainy or pixelated/ random occurance etc) Hopefully someone will know whats going on and if it can be fixed.

HELP!

I will also keep in mind to try and take a picture next time it happens. In the mean time, think the London Olympic 2012 logo!!

Thanks all

I dropped my computer today from about 18" off the ground and now I am getting the same pink and green screen now. I have restarted and it doesn't go away. The screen seems to be more usable if you do the ctrl-alt-apple-8 which inverts the colors of the mac screen. My wife said this happened a few months ago but went away until now. I guess that it is a video card partial failure, or a problem with one of the wires.

Hello hello,
I have had a very similar problem to the ones described here, and I solved the problem by jiggling the right wire.

My screen was blue where it was supposed to be white, and the shadows, or blacks, were pink with the lines. All I did was open up the back of the display, and when I moved one of the wires to remove a screw, the screen flickered and returned to normal.

The wire is small and black in the top left corner of the screen (if you are looking at the BACK of an upright iBook.)

Hope this helps someone.
