How to print in Draft Quality

How to print in Draft Quality

Brand new to Mac. I have a HP Photosmart C5280 All-in-One Printer. How to I set it up so that all printing is done in Black & White Draft Quality? - do not want color printing??? HP's website refers to Draft, Normal, and Best Quality printing, but can't find anything on Apple's for printing quality. I assume that if I can set-up for Draft Quality, I could revert to Normal and/or Color when desired.

Go to printer help on your Mac or HP's website. What you want should be there somewhere.

In the print dialog box, check the pulldown menu that says Copies and Pages. If you have a draft setting, it will be in there somewhere.

However, my old 920C did not have draft printing in OS X, only in windows, so it may or may not work.

Welcome to Apple Discussions

From the menu bar select "File / Print / Copy & Pages / ColorSync" then in "Quartz Filter" select "black & white" then "Print"

That's a very clever workaround, but it isn't exactly the same thing, since Draft is a faster, less ink-intensive setting, not merely a b&w one.

Yes only b&w instead of color... I do remember a rough draft feature when I had my G-3/OS 9.2 with an Epson and HP both. Do you think that came from the printer software or a change in the OS to OS X print pane features?

Sorry I'm not sure how to set b&w or gray tone as default!

Good question someone here should know if it's possible or not.

Well, I don't have Vista, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's not available there, either, for two reasons:

1. printers now are a lot faster than they used to be, so the time saving isn't a big deal anymore

2. Clearly printer companies have realized that ink is their bread and butter and they would like you to use as much of it as possible.

The change is in the driver, btw.

There may be a true greyscale option in your driver.

I don't think you can set any of the special settings as the default, though, unfortunately
