Multiplexing Error...Again

My last 2 projects - using iMovieHD to create movie using imported video and photos - have ended up with multiplexing errors (in Best Quality Mode) when creating the .img file. They were under 1 hr so selected Best Performance and both created the .img file without problems. However in Best Quality always get the multiplexing errors. (Earlier posting I noticed had just the opposite results.) WHY the error in one mode and not the other?
Year ago I had multiplexing error problem and isolated it to 2 photos. Re-imported those photos and worked OK. Now trying to isolate the problem on this latest project as final will be over 1 hr. This has over 600 photos + video. Video sections OK, but 3 sections of Photos fail. I've edited all photos to 1000 X 1400 using PhotoElements 4.0. Most I dragged directly to the Clip section. (Do not use iPhoto.) Should I be using the Import Cmnd? Also is there a limit on how many to import at a time? One group was 190 photos that I imported at once, and something in that group is causing a multiplexing error. Also I set most photos at 3 sec duration. Is that a problem?
I'm doing all the earlier posted things like - delete iDVD.plist, restart Computer, plenty of room on system disk, etc.

It's obvious from other postings multiplexing errors are caused by multiple problems. Would be nice if Apple would assign error numbers and keep a log you could look at.

Multiplexing errors frequently occur if you use a brand of DVD disk that is not of good quality. Memorex seems to be one of the worst; Verbatim is one of the best.
Be sure to created a disk image first. That can help isolate problems that might come up in the burn process. Also, if you burn from a disk image using Disk Utility you can set the rate of burn speed to a slower one than the default maximum, down to 4x.

I usually don't import more than about 50-60 photos at a time, especially if I want to have the Ken Burns effect. Rendering takes very long and I have found that I run into other problems trying to put so many photos into iMovie at once.

Since you have a suspect group of photos, I would try re-importing that batch of 190 photos, fewer at a time. You may have to try to burn the movie in small segments to isolate which photo(s) may have become corrupted if the new importing does not fix the problem.

The duration of 3 seconds per photo should not be a problem. You really mean 3 seconds, right, not 3 frames? 03:00 vs 00:03?

Dragging photos in should be fine. You don't have to use the Import command.

Thanks for the response. I've just been doing the .img creation. Get the error when it writes the lead in to create the .img file. As far as DVD brand I'm sticking exclusively with Maxell now and usually burn at 4-6X like you suggest. Photos are mostly at 3 seconds, not 3 frames.

I made some progress importing photos to determine which groups have the problems. One group I re-imported 30 at a time and it completed the .img file successfully. However when I added text to 4 of the pictures and ran it again, it FAILED. Same font I'd used on other photos previously imported that worked OK. I believe I also deleted a few pictures after I did the import and change the duration on a couple also. Don't understand. I've never had text problems like this before.

I was doing my experimenting on an external disk drive and decided to go back to an internal drive and my original iMovie file. Totally recreated the iDVD Theme and it just now failed after saying it was writing the lead in. Using Best Quality (takes 2.5 hrs). I'm going to start reimporting photos and see if get anywhere.

By the way has anybody had problems with the Theme "Travel Cards"? That's the one that runs 6 photos across the top. I used it before, but been a while.

My wife has a new iMAC with latest iLife. I'm tempted to move the iMovie over to it and see whaqt happens.

If you want to do the project in iMovie 6, start it over. You have posted in the iDVD 5 discussion, so I am assuming you are doing this in iLife 5. It is recommended that you refrain from changing versions in the midst of a project.

I do all my importing and editing of my iMovies on my external drive, and I create all my iDVD projects there as well. I have not ever had a problem with doing it all on an external drive. The drive must be Mac formatted, though.

There was a problem with some fonts in one of the iDVD versions. I can't find that specific one; it may have only applied to iDVD4....

One recommendation is to trash the Fonts Collections folder, found in YourUserName/Library

I've been working on a project with iMovie and exported it to iDVD.

The burning process starts but I always get and error when it comes to encoding the audio of the movie.

The movie is just over an hour long and is not too large according the the status of iDVD.

I'm using a Powerbook G4 with Mac OS X 10.4.10, iMovie 5.0.2, and iDVD 5.01.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
