How Long Should It Take To Transfer Phone #?

My number port from t-mobile took around 36 hours, which I considered kind of long (since porting that same number into t-mobile from Verizon took around 5 minutes).

On the other hand, It was about 3 days after the iphone first came out.

It sounds like the iPhone is still in the activation process and is in a mixed mode.

It is tremendously variable, and primarily depends on how long it takes your old carrier to release the number. Mine (ported from T-Mobile) took about an hour and a half. Some people report it taking less than an hour. Less than 12 hours is typical. More than 24 hours is unusual, unless you are porting a land line, which it doesn't sound like you are.

If you have been waiting for more than 24 hours, it is probably worth your while to call AT&T.

I migrated two phone from Verizon. The first one took two days to completely transfer. During that time, I could dial out but incomming calls and text messages continued to go to my old phone. The second phone took a little over 24 hours. You will know the process is complete when AT&T sends a welcome text message.

Mine was surprisingly fast! I went to the AT&T store and asked about porting my number and the guy put me on the phone with AT&T and the woman took my info and said it should be on in about 2 hours. I was in the store about 2:15pm on Saturday and at at 3:58pm Saturday I received the text message that my phone was now ready to receive calls. 🙂

i got my iphone on 07/01/07 and it took about 20 mins to transfer my number from sprint through itunes. i too heard that it is an extremely variable process depending on the person and the carrier (not sure why but it is).

for me, keeping my old number was worth it, even if it had taken a day or two...although when you're ready to use that new shiny phone, i have no doubt it seems like forever.

I bought iPhone 7/20/07 activated a new AT&T number. Then on 7/27 at the end of my billing cycle for my Nextel number I ported over to AT&T. I was first told I needed a new SIM by AT&T but this was not the case I went into an AT&T store and they called the Wireless Port # and with in 20 minutes my calls were going out with my previous number and I was able to receive calls on the iPhone even though they told me it will not work until 10pm PST. Basically though it all come down to the backlog on the providers systems.

Mine was surprisingly fast, it took 45 minutes till I was able to make and take phone calls on my ported over Sprint number. Some peoples numbers have taken a few days to port over though.

I'd like to know this too. I purchased and activated my phone yesterday afternoon (around 2:30) and am still waiting for my Sprint number to port over.

Note that activation has been down from yesterday through this coming MOnday at 10:30 am. ET

Let me repeat...Activation is down until 10:30 ET on Monday -- you can not restore, activate or port anything to your iPhone until after 10:30 on Monday morning.

it took 52 hrs for mine to port from tmobile

I had a similar experience to Vincentf3, called AT&T port # on 8/3 (end of my billing cycle w/VZW), was told it would take up to 4 hours to receive calls on my iPhone; actual time = 15 minutes.
