PowerMAC G5 - 6600 - & The HP W2207

Are you connected by DVI by any chance? I have seen the same effect you describe from certain monitors. I don't know what the problem is or how to solve it short of replacing the monitor with a different one.

A dual-link DVI cable won't help. It just adds wires for signals that are not being used.

Same problem here, no matter what I tried it will always switch mode looping after waking up from sleep. I also experienced problem waking up when connected to my Macbook Pro, but instead of looping it stuck on a full blue screen. Happy enough it wasn't a windows blue screen of death... but it was frightening.

The temporary solution I found was to desactivate the sleep mode of the monitor but it's not a great solution.

Hope we find a fix soon.

Any chance that there is a setup menu item on the TV itself that will allow it to stay at it's last known frequency and not auto-select?

Same problem here. I have the same graphics card as you have. I am using the DVI port with a DVI cable. Display setting at recommended...1680 x 1050 @ 60 Hz. Loss of sync occurs if turn off the monitor and then turn it on. Also had loss of sync when I went into the HP display menu and changed a setting. I have not connected the monitor to the VGA port to see if problem will occur there ...has anyone tried this? ...Still looking for source of problem but no luck...maybe HP has idea's??.....

Same sync problem here with an Acer AL2216WSD. DVI only works after cold boot and until first sleep. Analog works fine.

How can I find out which firmware the Geforce 5200 has? Can I upgrade it?

The HPW2207 when plugged using the VGA port using the DVI converter from Apple does work great. The overall image does look fine and everything is working as expected. Not using the DVI port with this LCD panel is somehow sad but it doesn't seems to be so much of a problem for me, at this point.

Hope we will have a better fix than this one but at least the monitor looks good AND works.

I just bought this screen after returning a SAMSUNG 226BW (C). The Samsung was terrible with text and had a ghastly blue cast.

So I bring this one home, hook it up via DVI along side my old NEC which uses a VGA to DVI adapter, turn on the power and both screens start to cycle on and off without stop. I then unplugged the old NEC and ran just the HP 2207 and it would not hold sync at all, it would just cycle on and off forever until I pushed the power button! I tested my DVI ports with another monitor and they are fine.

I then spent more than an hour on the phone with HP tech support being transfered from one clueless Techie to another, I was transfered six times and had to repeat the entire story everytime until I finally clued in and hung up. They were useless!!! HP doesn't even have any MAC related drivers on their site, though two of the techies repeatedly insisted that I had to download the MAC drivers from their site, (DUH)...

This is shame becasue it is nice monitor. That HP only offers a 1 year warranty is pure abuse and testimony to their utter lack of confidence in their own hardware.

I'm quite stuck right now in terms of what monitor to get. If anyone can share a few suggestions I'd be mighty grateful!

I now have the HP 2207 working via the VGA port with an adapter but I will definitely be returning it on Monday!!!

I brought the Acer back to the store and bought the HP W2207 because I forgot this discussion 😟

But the W2207 performs just fine with my Geforce 5200 ultra, in fact it had no problems with a 24" HP monitor in the store, which ran at 1900*1200 pixels.

I now have no sync problems, neither when the display wakes from sleep nor when the G5 wakes.

The Acer display had no problems waking from sleep when connected to a HP peezee in the store.

It seems that the DVI connector and its signal levels are not so standard after all. It is probably best to haul your G5 to the store, as I did. That's what the handles are for.

Yes, I called Apple support, but they were not very helpful. The last advice they gave me that the Geforce could only go to 1600x1200, and might have trouble with 1680x1050, which is nonsense. I saw it drive a 1900x1200 HP flat panel just fine.

The HP W2207 was twice as expensive as the Acer, but it has a mighty fine picture. Better than the 15" TFT on the G4 ("desk lamp") where I am typing this.

I have a Mac Mini and bought the HP W2207.
I had flickering and black screen problems.
I found the solution in the Mac Mini discussion forum:

From what I understand the pixel clock is adjusted with this software.
The pixel clock for the HP W2207 is set at 146.25 MHz Non-Interlaced.
This is too high & needs to be under 135 MHz.
In addition, other setting changes need to be made.
Using this software, making adjustments as per the above link - everything has been fine.

Hi. I'm having the same problem with a new HP-2207 I just bought to replace a failing CRT I was using. I've got a quad core mac pro with the geforce 7300gt graphics card. When I try to run the 2207 on the first dvi port and the other crt that still works on the second dvi port (using the dvi/vga adapter that came with the Mac), both displays start cycling between a blue screen and a black screen. The 2207 works fine when it's the only display attached via dvi (never tried the analog connection). I'm also seeing the sync issue when I wake the mac up from sleeping. My only guess at this point is that the geforce card won't allow me to use both an lcd and a crt at the same time. One lcd by itself works great and the two crts I had hooked up via the dvi/vga adapters even worked great until one of them started failing. I was wondering if I might need a different cable or something. Has anyone gotten any closer to finding a solution? Oh yeah, I tried using switchresx and the settings in the previous post (for the mac mini) but that didn't help either. Still had the sync problems. Thanks for any info you can share.

I had the same problem with the Mac Pro and this great monitor. I used the DVI cable until Leopard came out and now I am using the DVI cable and everything works great!

Let me fix my last post! I used the "VGA" cable and when I upgraded to Leopard I switched to the "DVI" cable and everything works fine!
