itunes won't install due to problem with package.

I went to upgrade my itunes to the 7.3.2 and it froze in the middle of it. I restarted my computer and then my itunes won't show up nor download. I tried to use the apple installer and it gets most of the way through when the following message appears: "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2330." I have tried installing the program on it's own using tools--> download only and that did not work. I also tried using a different user account and that also did not work. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I am using a PC and have windows XP. Thank you.

I'm not sure if it's referring to a certain file, because it does not say a certain file. I believe it's referring to the itunes package because it's a quicktime and itunes download and the quicktime downloads and shows up on my computer. Quicktime is running fine. I run the apple install check and click to install itunes + quicktime. The downloader starts and it downloads about 23.20 MB and then 21.10 MB. Then in the same window as where it was downloading before goes into "downloading" and the status bar gets almost to the end when the error message pops up before. "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2330." I click ok. Then another pop up appears saying that the program did not install properly. If the problem persists to click tools--> download only and install the package individually. I tried that and that too failed with the same error message. I greatly appreciate any help. Thank you very much.

Okay.

Let's also try downloading a copy of the iTunes installer from the following page, rather than using Apple Software Update, or the iTunes.msi "downloaded-only" from Apple Software Update.

Download and Save, and then run the install by doubleclicking on the iTunesSetup.exe file:

iTunes 7.3.2.6 Installer

Does that one go through without the 2330? If not, is there any reference to a file in the 2330 off the new attempt at an install?

Let's try getting an installer log to the Apple Engineers for a look.

1. Open a command prompt window. (Start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return.)
2. Drag and drop iTunesSetup.exe onto the window so that the full pathname of the file is at the command line prompt.
3. Type in a space, then the following line:

/l*v C:\log.txt

4. Hit return.
5. The installer will create a log file:

C:\log.txt

Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address: royb@apple.com

in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:

- A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
- The username you are using in the thread
- The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
- the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)
- A concise description of the issue you are seeing
- The exact text of the error message you are seeing

OK, I took a look at the install log. The important section is:
MSI error 2330: Error getting file attributes: [3]. GetLastError: [2]

The Windows 1392 error is:
ERROR FILECORRUPT
1392 The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

So it sounds like this directory (C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.Resources\ko.lproj) is corrupt.

I would suggest that you just delete C:\Program Files\iTunes manually in Windows Explorer and try the install again.

🙂 Thanks for the backup, Roy!

Interesting. That's consistent with 2330s where the file and path is getting referenced in the 2330 message ... as often as not, it's a file in one of the lproj folders that will be referenced.

Hi Royb,
first i excuse myself for my english...its not too bad but sometimes i make mistakes... however

perhaps you can help me with my problem as well. i did the log file as well and i suppose its something to do with the ipod functions in itunes. everywhere in the logfile where the pattern "2330" matches is something like this:

MSI (c) (A0:08) [21:33:37:187]: Note: 1: 2330 2: 23 3: C:\Programme\iPod
MSI (c) (A0:08) [21:33:37:187]: Transforming table Error.

DEBUG: Error 2330: Error getting file attributes: C:\Programme\iPod. GetLastError: 23
Bei der Installation dieses Pakets ist ein unerwarteter Fehler aufgetreten. Es liegt eventuell ein das Paket betreffendes Problem vor. Der Fehlercode ist 2330. Argumente: 23, C:\Programme\iPod,
AppSearch: Eigenschaft: EXISTINGINSTALLDIR, Signatur: Locate_EXISTINGINSTALLDIR
AppSearch: Eigenschaft: EXISTINGIPODINSTALLDIR, Signatur: Locate_EXISTINGIPODINSTALLDIR

in case the german language causes problems with the analysis i tried to translate it into proper english:

MSI (c) (A0:08) [21:33:37:187]: Note: 1: 2330 2: 23 3: C:\Programme\iPod
MSI (c) (A0:08) [21:33:37:187]: Transforming table Error.

DEBUG: Error 2330: Error getting file attributes: C:\Programme\iPod. GetLastError: 23
During the installation an error occured. Maybe there is a packet problem. The error code is 2330. Arguments: 23, C:\Programme\iPod,
AppSearch: Attribute: EXISTINGINSTALLDIR, Signature: Locate_EXISTINGINSTALLDIR
AppSearch: Attribute: EXISTINGIPODINSTALLDIR, Signature: Locate_EXISTINGIPODINSTALLDIR

I hope this helps...
It would be very nice if you help me, otherwise i see no other way than formationg windows...and i hate that...thats why mac is better -.-

however plase help me and if it helps i can send u the hole logfile. =)

thank alot!
