Wow ... that's not good.

Guess I'm gona have to make sure I keep my imac in a dark room with no lights ...

Edit: Just looked at that photo again and it looks like they've got the imac such that there's a load of windows behind the users. That's gona mean big screen glare.

Now if they'd got it so there was a plain wall behind the user then that would be interesting to see. I think I'm just gona have to wait till my local reseller (or pc world :S) gets them in so that I can go have a play and see for myself

Well, hopefull it won't be so bad if you don't have a window directly behind you.

The other thing about glossy screens is they usually have more saturation and contrast than matte screens, which is wonderful for things like watching movies, but not so good for doing color-critical work.

I'm sure they're beautiful to look at, though, like a giant iphone on a pedestal.

When the MacBooks were released there was two things that kept me from ordering online. One was the keyboard and two the glossy screen. I typically order online since the Apple Store is fairly far away and I really don't mind waiting a day or two but in this case I had to see one in person before I bought it. Actually I was worried more about the keyboard than the screen.

Anyway I went to the Apple Store and checked them out. The glossy screen is a completely non-issue for me. Realize of course that it's a laptop and I can move it to lessen/eliminate the glare but also realize that being portable I have to contend with much more "inconsistent" lighting. If fact I've had much less trouble with the screen than I did with my PowerBook.

What I found was while the glossy screen is more susceptible to glaring I found the matte finish of the PowerBook would just "wash out" when the lighting wasn't good. I'd just get a big white ball on the screen instead of glaring.

For me it's not a problem and actually I really like it. It would be nice I guess if there was an option like the MBP's to choose matte or glossy but there isn't and even if there was I'd order glossy.

Oh and order I did. It's already shipped! wOOt!

I only see waiting for Leopard as a viable option if you don't have a Mac now and want to wait for the new OS. If you have a Mac now and plan to keep it along with your new purchase you'll probably want it to be upgraded to Leopard as well.

In my case I have three Macs that will be capable of running Leopard so to upgrade the other two I'd still have to buy a retail copy of the OS for them and I might as well get the new iMac now and wait to buy the multi-license when it's released since you can't use the System discs of one computer on another (ie I can't use the Intel System disc on my G5). Something to think about.
