Sync with Outlook OST or PST

I am trying to sync my contact group for phone at my work. The outlook is connected to Exchange Server and a copy of outlook.ost is maintained on local drive "C". It seems that Apple support people are clueless about "OST" Vs. "PST" files. In setup, info tab, sync contact, I can only select all contact radio button. The select group button is gray and cannot be selected even when I have the two different contact group in outlook. Anyone with knowledge on outlook with exchange could shed some light. Thanks.

Your .pst files are outlooks offline folder data file. This is where your contacts, offline email folders and calender data are built and stored. If you take a .pst folder from your home outlook and take it to work and drop it in the windows exchange folder then it will populate your office outlook. I do this when I get re-assigned in the Army and have to leave my work computer behind...I drop all of my .pst files into a thumbdrive and install them on my new issued computer and all is good to go. Group options are just for your online outlook address book and can help you do a sort there...it is not transferable to the iPhone. iPhone has two choices...last name first, or first name first, no other options to choose from regardless of using outlook or the Mac equivalent. Hope that answers your question.

Good Luck!

I understand the difference in .pst and .ost and how they can be setup with outlook. I included that in my original post in hope that someone will have idea how iphone sync works with the type of file. Neither post gives me information on how to select the contact list group. That is what I am trying to find out. Apple support says and the screen shows the option to select group but I can't access it. How do you setup the group in outlook so itune will recognize it.

That is what I did say in my post...iTunes and iPhone cannot/willnot allow the selection process that you are looking for. There are two choices and two choices only! The two groups above are the only parameters allowed with the current software on the iPhone. It has nothing to do with outlook and the choices that are available in outlook, only what is allowed by the current software settings of the iPhone.
