when i first installed ilife '08 yesterday, neither iDVD or garage band would start without crashing. Oddly Garage Band will work fine if i switch to another user (and I figured out how to fix iDVD myself, by dragging the "installed themes" folder to the trash).
So now everything is working, except Garage Band will only work for my "other" user.
Any ideas?

repaired permissions (using disc utility, disc warrior and onyx), trashed prefs, trashed garage band prefs, deleted all installed MIDI devides, emptied garage band cache, deleted all garage band folders.
no luck. still doing the same thing. sometimes it does nothing but bounce in the dock, sometimes the "welcome screen" appears for like a second, then it crashes.
holy crap, applecare just called back, three days earlier than they said they would, and had me try dragging the "audio" folder out of my user library, and the "garage band" folder out of my application support folder; but no fix.
I mentioned your plug-in theory, so they're gonna look into that too.
At least they seem to be on top of things a lot better this time around. i remember iLife '06 being nightmareish at first
this would really be grasping at straws, but i would also try moving all files out of the Music folder and try launching GB, and if that failed I'd probably try emptying the contents of my Pictures folder
I am having the same issue. The most frustrating thing is, I bought/installed iLife '08 right after spending the day doing a complete, clean reinstsall of my system. Ergo, not only have I gone through the regimen of the trashed prefs, permission repairs (Disk Utility and Disk Warrior), and zapped pram, but my Photo album is empty, my Music folder is empty and my Movies folder is empty.
In other words, for all intents and puposes I have an iLife Mac going here with nothing that (theoretically) should be standing in the way of Garage Band launching, and yet...it bounces in the Dock and then tells me "GB unexpectedly quit."
I look forward to someone coming up with something here.
