How To install Xvid Codec to view video on Quicktime

I downloaded a video torrent. When I tried to view it through Quicktime it prompted me to download Xvid codec to view the video. I downloaded Xvid and have installed it, however it will not play the video. I must be missing a step somewhere but I don't know where. Please help.

MacBook 2,1, Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Hi Scotty,

Try downloading Perian and installing - see if this works for you.

And uninstall/trash the XVid codec since it will interfere with Perian. I would suggest not mentioning torrents as piracy is not an allowed topic here when you need help.

I agree with you. Didn't see the OP's reference to torrents at the time.

Point well taken, however, there are plenty of websites out there that offer free and legal Torrent downloads.

We shouldn't assume that the poster is promoting piracy unless it's very blatent.

Did you repair permissions & restart? That is what it takes to activate the Xvid plug ins.

Switch browers if you have too. Double check to make sure you downloaded Xvid codec for Macs.
