mouse is acting funny

i'm not sure if this is a hardware or software problem but whenever i move my mouse to fast in one direction, the cursor just stays still and does nothing at all. its become so annoying like whenever i want to use a hot corner and make a quick movement, i find my cursor where it was and my mouse at the end of my desk. any ideas on how to fix this if it is a software problem?

I also am have severe problem the mouse ( tried both wired and wireless mighty mouse), The tracking is "jittery" can't get to areas of the screen, move vursor to a spot and it instantly moves to another. I tried changng mouse pads - no help. The problem is inconsistant - sometimes the mouse works fine. I also have a wacom tablet with mouse, and that mouse works perfectly.

Batteries are new and I've checked for updates.

Here's my experience:

I downloaded the latest iceMouseJr driver (didn't have one before).

The driver helped a little bit.

I switched mice with my son who has an iBook and 10.4.9. His EcoMouse works perfect on my computer and the iceMouseJr doesn't work at all on his.

So I ordered a second EcoMouse and hope the same name isn't on a newer non-functioning design.
