Anyone have any experience with Timbuk2 bags?

Thanks for all the answers to my last messenger bag thread. I think I've narrowed my decision down to the "Original Commute" by Timbuk2. I like the look, and it looks like it has enough space for a binder and a couple books for school.

Does anyone have/had one of these? How was your experience with it?

Gracias!

I have one that looks very similar to the one you reference, mines a Timbuk2 messenger bag. It is very well built and provides good protection. I bought the one made for a 17" to allow the extra space for a neoprene sleeve the 15" Mackbook Pro travels in and my other travel peripherals. I've owned several other brands and like Timbuk2 the best so far.

My experience with Timbuk2 bags was that the bag is well made, but the strap attachment to the bag *****. Before I stopped using mine, the strap came unhooked from the ring twice. The first time I caught it before it hit the ground, the second time I didn't and had a $300 repair to an AlBook when the corner of the bag hit the floor first.

Haven't seen one lately, but if they're still using those silly strap hooks with the folded paperclip-like metal closure... I wouldn't trust them.

I have been using a Timbuk2 Laptop Messenger Bag since early 2005 and have never had any problems. I recently picked up a new one to accommodate my new MBP and have found the quality of the bag to be the same as before -- excellent!

The bag is stylish and is constructed from high quality materials. I have a 'medium' sized bag which holds my MBP (& AC adapter, etc.) along with 2-3 average sized college text books. The zippered pocket is nice and provides space for numerous items.

No complaints. They have also added more protection for laptops since the version I purchased in 2005. 🙂
