iTunes skips imported video - only plays video from the iTunes store

Using an old Powerbook with iTunes (7.3.2) and a 300GB external drive, I have created my own media centre. It contains a mixture of music videos which have been bought through the iTunes store or converted into iPod video format and then imported into iTunes.

iTunes plays the imported videos fine - double click and the selected video opens in a new window/full screen. However whenever I try and play a sequence of videos, iTunes will only play the purchased videos. It will never play the imported videos as part of a sequence.

I've been through the preferences and compared the bought vs imported videos but I can't understand why iTunes seemingly ignores the imported videos.

I'm considering purchasing an Apple TV but if the same thing happens then what's the point?

PowerBook 1.25 GHz, Mac OS X (10.4.10)
