Apple 23: ACD vs. Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP-HC - Experiences?

All,
Looking for any experience folks may have had with the vs. the 23" ACD on 17" Mac Book Pro (Intel based). I will be using it mostly for Video and Photography. I know the ACD is an S-IPS display, but the new HC model of the Dell expands the color capability, and the Dell has some user features e.g. PIP, rotating and height adjustable stand, etc. and is about $200+ less (student discount on ACD). I heard some stories about the Dell also being inconsistent as LCD supplier can change without notice. Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated. I intend to use either mostly in extended Desktop mode to get the full resolution rather than mirrored mode. Thanks ....

Let me try this again.. Not sure what happened to everything I typed the first time. I am using a 17" Mac Book Pro (Intel). Has anyone had any experience with the Ultrasharp HC version of the Dell 2407WFB LCD Display. It has some additional features over the ACD e.g. PIP, adjustable stand, etc. and is less costly, but it is not an S-IPS display. I intend to use it mostly for photographic and video work. The S-IPS disply of the ACD should deliver better color, but the newer Dell HC model is supposed to deliver a broader color gamut. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have both at work, and would say that both are very good for the type of work you are doing. I don't think you would be disappointed in either.

However if price is an issue, I would get the Dell as it's better value.

From what I've been reading on the net and first hand experience I'd stay away from Dells.

Its been reported (unsubstantiated) that because of dells money woes they've been using cheaper components for their computers and displays and while the older displays were excellent (I have a 24" dell display) their newer ones leave me disappointed.

I purchased for my a wife a new computer (yes we're a mixed marriage 🙂 ) It was a dell and I upgraded this display to a higher end model. The construction, design and image are all disappointing. For instance, there's no way for you to adjust the display higher or lower. My wife has to put books underneath the display to raise it to a proper height.

You get what you pay for and if you want to cut corners and by a cheaper display, get a samsung,

Well that is indeed interesting.. The description on the Dell site says it clearly comes with an adjustable height stand, that also allows swivel for 90 Deg. viewing.. here is the description from the Dell site..

You misunderstood my post. I have the 24" lcd that purchased a few years ago. I have no complaints for that monitor.

I purchased a new computer for my wife and upgraded the monitor to their ultra-sharp 20" display and that does not have any height adjustment.

Mike .. Thanks.. I just assumed from your post, that the new one was also a 24 inch. Other than the height adjustment, how is the display, etc. From looking at the site, I don't think that they have the HC version available in the 20" yet. Thanks again..

it was the 2405 model (I think) I got it just before they released the 2407 so if that helps. I forget the actual name.

we haven't calibrated them but the pictures are about the same. We got them specifically for HD work and they are great. The designers have a dual dell 24" setup and they all love them. Our FCP machine has the apple 23" and it has been flawless.

Thanks.. That is the older version without the increased color. At $569 (free shipping) I ordered one from Dell to give it a try for myself. Most every review was very strong, but we'll see if the reviewers are correct. Thanks again to all, and I'll post results if anyone is interested.
