How to add black censor bars to image?

I need to use an effect where black censor bars cover up a part of my picture. How do I do this? Thanks.

Probably the easiest method would be to add a Color Matte (generator) and place it on the Video track above your clip. Reload the matte into the Viewer and use the Crop or Distort controls to size it, and the Basic Motion controls to position and/or rotate it where it needs to be in the image.

You will most likely need to keyframe the positioning if the subject to be hidden moves throughout the duration of the clip.

If you are using FCP (mmmh what software are you using? I noticed that you are on W. XP) use BORIS vector shape filter from filters tab.

Alternatevely create a simple black rectangle in Photoshop, export it to FCP ( use composite mode to get rid of background if you get one) and rotate and resize it in FCP using motion tab tools

PS. The one above is a quick and general suggestion, post back if you need extra help, one of us will help you.

There are some tracking plugins out there for FCP. Google for tracking plugin fcp and see what you come up with.

Upgrading to Studio2 will include a very strong tracking bit in the new Motion.

If you happen to have AfterEffects or Shake... well... you wouldn't be asking if you did.

Short of paying that...

Cropping a color matte and keyframing it is your best way to go.

Good luck,
