iphone RING SELECTION - ducks and dogs

What on earth was Apple thinking when they chose the ringtones? This is the absolute WORSE feature on this phone and mind you; my phone died once (but that's another story). Can we PLEASE get something that sounds like a ring. How embarrasing to pay $500 plus monthly service and have to choose between alien like sounds and farm animals.

Ugh.

Some of the selection may seem a lil' elementary but if you own a MAC, there's a lil' program called iMovie. It's where you can upload home videos and edit them and burn them as actual DVD's (called iDVD).. They feature certain "sound effects" in this program which some of those are the ones currently included in your iPhone. I'm assuming they wanted to keep some familiar sounds consistent.

I personally enjoy the default "Marimba" ... nothing shouts to the world that you are the proud owner of an iPhone like that Marimba ringtone.

+doodoodoodoo-doo doododododoo-dooo!+

But you know what's funny? Watch any of the current TV ads for the iPhone, and listen to when the call comes in and the iPhone rings at the end....it's the perfect ring tone...

YET THAT PARTICULAR RING IS MISSING FROM OUR IPHONES. X(

I use the "Old Phone" ring tone. That definitely sounds like a phone!.

I grew up with the old style Ma Bell phones in which that ring was used for every phone. That jangling ringing sound is so ingrained in my mind that I can hear and distinguish it in any quiet or noisy place and KNOW that a phone is ringing.

Little snippets of music, sound effect or animals/insects I would dismiss (not associating it with a ringing phone), even in a quiet place, and most likely miss the call before realizing "my" phone was ringing.

I also like the "Alarm" one, sure gets your attention.

Don't you be dissing the duck that just happens to be my ring tone it is so funny in public to pick up a phone that i quacking and saying hello I love it!

I don't like to attract attention in public, so I prefer the regular phone sounds to the funny duck sound that makes people look and go "ooh, an iPhone!"

Besides, I carry around a real duck on my head at all times, and it's one heckuva quacker. So if I set my iPhone ring to quack, and I start to hear quacking, I wouldn't know if it was my iPhone ringing, or just that darn duck on my head getting mouthy!

I am another here that doesn't mind the included ringtones...since I am one of the few in the modern world that absolutely hates to hear the latest hip-hop song or the something similar from a mobile phone in a business setting.

I had been using "Strum", but with the ringer being so low I could barely her it unless it was really quiet. I am now really liking the "Marimba" tone, which is the same tone I use for my morning alarm. Heck, at least I can hear that one pretty well.

And...there is nothing wrong with your phone barking. 😉

Okay here goes...I know for a fact that if you are syncing your iPhone with a Windows computer you do not have to settle for the ringtones that your phone came with. You can make a ringtone from ANY MP3 you own and sync it to your phone. An added bonus is the new ringtone will be so loud you will have to turn your ringer volume down to about one third, which will make the "it's not loud enough" people (of whom I am not one) happy. Google "iphone ringtone" and use your head. Try a little self-help, people, before slamming your phone or phone company.

I use the one called "Old Phone" and, gasp!, it SOUNDS like a ringing phone!

However, I agree that Apple "screwed the pooch" so-to-speak, in not having this iPod+Phone be able to access a 30 second clip from the music/audiobooks/podcasts, etc. as a ring tone
