Can't get an ipod to work

I bought my first ipod (30 GB) in May 2007 (daughter's 16th birthday). Never could get it to work on my PC computer (had the computer checked out and it's fine). Couldn't get songs loaded, tried the 5rs, and finally came back as corrupted. Sent it to Apple repair (under warranty), they sent a replacement (someone else's problem?). This time I could get songs loaded, but they wouldn't play. Took it to the Apple store and the (nasty) man told me to restore it, that the firmware was not compatible with the itunes software. Tried restoring and it wouldn't restore; wiped the memory so I got the screen about connect to itunes to restore, etc. Couldn't get it to restore. Took it to the Geek Squad and they got me back to the main screen. Loaded songs and it skipped over all of them. Tried restoring, back to the connect to itunes screen. Breathed right, or something, because lo and behold I got it restored and I bought 1 song off itunes, synced it to the ipod, trying to see if that made a difference. Wouldn't play. Finally tried restoring, again, back to the connect to itunes screen. Had enough - sent it to Apple repair (warranty service). They sent it back, said it was fine, couldn't reproduce my error, but updated firmware and software. Great! Plugged it in to my USB, had a full charge, synced my one song, and it won't play my one song. I'm so frustrated. I don't know what to do anymore. I have spent so many hours trying many different things and nothing helps. Do I go to the Geek Squad again?
