As I stated in a previous post, if you copy the .m2ts or .mts files to an external firewire drive, iMovie 08 detects the drive and opens the import dialog for clip selection.

iMovie really should have the ability to import AVCHD files by selecting any device/folder from within the import dialog box. This would allow you to select clips from your local hard disk on your Mac!

I don't know what the structure has to look like. what do you have?
Mine looks like that:
AVHCD - BMDV - (CLIPINF , INDEX.BDM, MOVIEOBJ.BDM, PLAYLIST, STREAM)
AVF_INFO
DCIM
MODELCFG.IND

wheres the .mts files are in the stream folder. And clipinf, playlist and stream are subfolders of bmdv, files with extentions are files, not directories.
hope that helps.
by the way when I only copied part of the files, it worked now that I have copied everything, imovie crashes while importing… maybe to many files...

There are two types of files. .mts which is the native file on the Sony SR1 and .m2ts which is the file as it is converted (copied) onto your hard drive with the Sony Disk Utility that comes with the SR1, which is only windows based.

It looks like creating a disk image (.dmg) with the same file structure as the SR1 anyname.dmg -> AVCHD ->BDMV -> Stream -> *.mts will allow the loading of the native SR1 files.

But, I cannot get anything to work for the .m2ts files stored on my hard drive. Has anyone successfully loaded the .mt2s files into iMovie08 ?

iMovie ’08 and Sony HDR-SR1 and HDR-SR7 compatibility

iMovie ’08 and the Sony HDR-SR1 and HDR-SR7 camera support AVCHD (high-definition) and MPEG-2 (standard definition) content when the following guidelines are followed:

Sony HDR-SR1 & HDR-SR7 Content Power Mac G51 Intel-based Mac
AVCHD Only No Yes
MPEG-2 Only Yes Yes
When the Sony HDR-SR1 and HDR-SR7 cameras contain both AVCHD and MPEG-2 content, iMovie ’08 will be able to import the MPEG-2 content. However, to import the AVCHD content to an Intel Mac, you must first erase the MPEG-2 content on the camera

I have a Sony HDR-CX7 and only 1 8GB memory stick so I have an external hard drive with a built-in card reader that I use to copy my memory sticks. When I tried to import my files into iMovie 08 they were a grayed out. I found if you move the files out of the folder into the root directory they would load without a problem. You have to be careful to load one at a time because the camera names the files the same each time you format the memory stick.
