I'd like to return iLife 08 ASAP to the store

I bought this software at the Apple store this weekend being told it would do everything that iMovie HD did but had more bells and whistles on it. After discovering this was a stripped down version, I fortunately found my other version of iMovie HD and dragged he icon into tool bar. I feel ripped off and as a recent Apple from PC convert, I'm still not totally sold on Apple products. I'm hoping they'll take this software back and can uninstall the entire iLife 08 software.

macbook, Mac OS X (10.4.10)

That it what you get for not doing research.
Do you always buy something before doing research?
You have nobody to blame but yourself.

Its funny you take the time to complain here. But don't take the time to read what other users have said about iMovie 8.

So go ahead and be mad at Apple.
Judging by your post, you probably don't ealuate Windows based products either.

Hmmm- considering this package is called "iLife" and not "iMovie", I don't agree with you.

I love what they've done with iPhoto and iWeb is WAY better. I still think iDVD in menu mode is horrendous though.

iMovie is one of the bigger selling points, I'll agree, but as long as iMovie HD is available in the iMovie (previous version) directory, I'm not complaining. I'll continue to use that for things that matter (like wedding videos, birthdays, etc).

I really can't agree with you!
An Apple store should be a good point for information about an Apple product.
And the information he got were absolutly wrong and misleading!

Here we go with the blame someone else rant again.
Nobody is perfect including employees.
Its funny how people come here and complain. But don't take the time or ignore what other users are saying about iMovie 8 before they buy it.

This site is loaded with many user experiences, both good and bad.
Take he time to research before spending your money.
In the process you might save us time by not posting +blame everyone else+ posts.

I did that, and i am not going to spend my money on ilife 08 (until it gets upgrade with most of the features imovie 06 had)
Besides that, i know nobody is perfect. But when it comes to selling a product i should have a clue about what i am selling. I can't sell you a mobilephone telling you it does everything the last model does (including sending mms and Wifi support) when it doesn't.
At least there should be the possibilty to return the product when something like this happens!

Yawn.
Well you just did spend money on iLife 08.
There is no telling how long the wait will be, if any. Only speculation about updating.
Get real. If you did what you said, there would have been no point in buying the software in the first place..

Regarding your example. Well, you could sell a moblie phone to someone. Especially someone that does not do background work before making a purchase.
After all, you bought software and beleived what the salesman said.
So which is it?

I'd say you should stop mixing me up with the original poster.
I didn't buy ilife 08, im still sticking with ilife 06!
Yawn

Besides that, your arguments are completly irrelevant!
If the employees seels me a product with the clear statement it can do the same plus more features it's a lie when the product lacks of most of the features the last version had!

Thats a clear statement and i should be able to trust it!
Maybe you are trying to argue that apple shop employees regulary have no idea about the products they are selling?

Sorry (and apologise for my English),
but I can't disagree more. If you call your new release iLife08 you expect, at least, that the products part of the suite have been improved from the last version : there should be no need to first check forums, especially because you're going to spend just 79€ (and this is another speculation : in the US the "upgrade" costs 79USD : 30% less than in EU). All the SW houses make upgrades where the previous version has been improved. In this case iMovie08 is a completely different product with a completely customer target. I would not complain if Apple would have called iMovie something different, but leaving the name unchanged people suppose to buy an improved version of iMovie HD.

Completely agree. iLife 08's iMovie 08 is false advertising and a refund should be promptly offered to those that were misguided by the false advertising.

Note to all: mileage will vary wildly with Apple store employees!

If iMovie 08 were my primary motivation, I would be attempting to return my iLife 08 no question.

I do find iPhoto 08 to be a very nice upgrade and I was able to quickly organize my photo's. There was no removal of features in iPhoto, only addition.

I see two valid points here -

1 - All previous versions of iMovie have been upgrades to the platform that was available at that time. Why should anyone of us sit and wait for postings to the forum? I think a large amount of us just expected 08 to be everything that 06 did - plus more.

2 - If we all waited for someone to post to the forums how good/bad iMovie is, we'd be all waiting forever. That's a pretty lame suggestion. Go to the store, try out a few things. Go home, mull it over, go back and try some more - then decide.

I think ANYONE using 08 will agree that compared to 06 this feels stripped down just for stupid youtube/.mac videos.

Jobs and Apple.com have not been been misleading. In fact Jobs went right out and claimed that iMovie 08 was a replacement and a completely different application. You as the consumer assumed that since it has a higher version number that it was the same product and then some.

Jobs was very clear that this was not the case. Heck, You still have iMovie HD still! For free.

I'd like to return iLife 08 ASAP to the store
