I recently tried to open iWeb ( to do some updates) and git the following error message: Can't open file "~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites."
I went to the libary and the file is in the location ... but if I click on it nothing happens.
My website is up and running when I look on the web...
If you are running iWeb 2.0 (iLife 08) and the file is .sites and not .sites2, you should see the following thread that I posted:

Hopefully, you have a backup of your Domain.sites file before installing iWeb 2.0. These instructions allowed my domain conversion to complete successfully. I have had no problems since.
When the 1.1.2 update was released for iWeb06, even though it only addressed Aperture, we began to see this reported here. Basically what's happened is, your Domain.sites file has become "corrupted", for lack of a better term. No matter what you do, if iWeb hasn't launched that Domain.sites file by now, it won't. I'm sorry for such bad news.
If you continue using iWeb06, you will probably have to recreate the site. Save often as you work in iWeb, and make duplicates of the Domain.sites file frequently so that if this ever happens again, you can fall back on a slightly earlier version of your site.
ok - that is very bad news
so how can I even go about recreating my site? Since I can't open iWeb? Do I trash the domain.site file and then will it open?
Oh no. No need to trash the Domain.sites file. It has elements in it (like the original photos) you may want to retrieve. Just put it in a folder and place the folder in your Documents folder.
Re-launch iWeb and recreate the site. You can copy and paste stuff from a browser, out of your published site, if it helps.
What is iWeb doing? Are you getting an error message (unexpected quit) or just a frozen spinning ball?
Try navigating to the default location of the Domain.sites file (Home folder Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites) and if there is a Domain file there move it to the desktop. Now launch iWeb by double-clicking the app. It should launch with a new blank Domain.sites file.
