How to delete songs from iTunes library

Sometimes I am able to delete songs from my iTunes library and sometimes not. What is the preferred way of doing this? Just in case you want to say to press the DELETE button, or the DELETE button plus the COMAND, OPTION, or CONTROL buttons, I've already tried. Like I say, sometimes I'm successful, and sometimes I'm not. I think that there mjust be an entirely different way, the right way.

If the songs are located in the iTunes music folder, iTunes will ask to delete them from the hard drive.,
If they are not located in the iTunes music folder, iTunes will just remove them from the library.

Okay, but how do I do it?

One way is to right click the song and click delete,
then the message Chris CA was talking about should come up,
then just click remove to delete.

I don't know what you mean by a message by Chris CA. I don't see any message. Anyway, the Right Click did the trick. I guess that's why I was sometimes successful and sometimes not. I probably sometimes unthinkingly clicked left and right at the same time. Usually, I just click the left side. I wonder how many other things require a right click. I'll have to remember that the next time I have some kind of problem.
