Is Apple Certified status worth it?

Dear All,
I am currently working in the broadcast industry and have managed to make the conversion to content editing for internal broadcast requirements. I am in my late twenties so hopefully not an old man to this industry yet 🙂

I was wondering if Apple Certification is worth pursuing or are there more industry recognisable certifications available.

Thanks in advance,

Well, if you do get certified and get hired by apple and go train people in businesses that need to learn final cut or what ever other certification you get. then yes its worth it. i have heard that the test is fairly hard. i know some one that is getting ready to take the test and just has not yet. you are aware that you have to train for a Cretan number of years before you are allowed to take it and you have to pay for the test. I really can't say if its worth doing it. it really depends on the person. i was thinking about it but i just don't have the time to do it. my suggestion is see how many people get certified, get a job after training.

Good Luck...

hello, i am currently enrolled in a final cut/avid 6-week class and we have the option to get certifies. at first i wanted so i can put on my resume and thought it would make me stand out but 4 weeks in and i dont care too much about certification. i think if you plan on teaching or working with apple it is a good idea. i hope to do freelance work so i dont think i need it but you never know. i might change my mind.

+i have heard that the test is fairly hard+

as in any test, that surely depends on how well you actually know the subject matter, and how well prepared you are for the test.
i've heard the complete opposite. in fact for a long time it was an open book, open app, multiple choice test ... tests don't get much easier than that. test conditions may have changed tho.

+you are aware that you have to train for a Cretan number of years before you are allowed to take it+

not true. unless Cretan is a kind of fraction from Greece that i haven't heard of 🙂 you do have to take the test at an authorized training center tho. for level one exams you are not required to sit a class, for level two you must have level one certification already, and are required to sit the advanced class.

+and you have to pay for the test+

is there any other kind?

but the sentiment is spot on. theres precious little chance it will get you a job. those come based on the quality of your work. but if you're looking for work as a trainer in Apple's Pro Apps, then getting certified as a Trainer is a step in the right direction, and for that you probably need user certification

Someone mentioned that it would be a good thing for a teacher to have. I teach using Final Cut, and I don't really see getting the certification as being much of a use. If I were in a job interview at another school, I could drop that I was Final Cut Certified into the conversation, and then watch the eyes of the administrator who is interviewing me glaze over. I think they would care more about my abilities to teach students overall video logic rather than my extensive knowledge of apple's shortcuts for FCP.

But that being said, I also know some of the tv teachers in the big money big city districts nearby who are chomping at the bit for it. Last time I checked, it was 1600 or so to take the test. Their districts have the money to throw at testing I guess... so more power to them.
