iTunes inserts 'blips' into all songs

This is not really my thing, but it might be worth checking to see if the problem exists when you play files with the Quicktime player rather than iTunes as iTunes uses the Quicktime player.

If so, it might be worth taking a look in the audio tab of your quicktime preferences. There is a setting for safe mode that might be worth trying. Also, are the settings in the sound out box appropriate for your particular sound card?

Now you have isolated the problem to iTunes, there are a couple of simple things you could try as long shots.

1) Delete your preference files - this causes iTunes to creat new ones so remember any special settings you have.

Resetting the iTunes Preference Files:
You may need to make hidden files visible
My Documents>Tools>Folder Options>View
Check Show hidden files and folders

-- Quit iTunes
-- Delete C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref and/or iTunesPrefs.xml
-- Delete C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer Inc\iTunes.pref and/or iTunesPrefs.xml

For Vista the files are in:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes

2) recreate you library files:

With iTunes closed, drag iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music libry.xml out of your iTunes folder to your desk top.

Start iTunes and use File>Import to import iTunes Music library.xml into iTunes.

If this doesn't work, you can simply delete the newly created library files and copy the originals back into you iTunes folder. (With iTunes closed)


It is always important to have a backup of your music and library files especially when experimenting.
