On some of my events after installing iLife '08, the dates say "January 1, 1980-(whatever normal date)". But I don't have any picuters from 1980 nor was i even alive in 1980, nor did they have digital cameras back then. So, i have no idea where it is getting that date from. I have it all sorted by dates and i have nothing in my library before october 2002. someone please help me this is a really annoying problem, since i cant sort my events by date without some of them being in the completely wrong place!

Take a look at the photos in one of those evernt - you probabl will find that they are wrong. You can correct them by selecting the photos with bad dates and going to Photos ==> adjust date and time or Photos ==> batch change
Depending on your situation it may be easier to identify the photos in photo display rather than event - in photo disply mode turn off event title and you should be able to find where your photos stop having a bad date and start having correct dates without too much trouble - welect the ones with bad dates and correct as above.
THEN to get the events to notice the corrected dates you will have to go to event display and select a photo in each event that has a bad starting date, create a new event from tthat photo and drag the rest of the photos in the event to the new event with the correct date -- repeat for each event with a bad date for the start of the event
thanks, but what im saying is that even though all my pictures are sorted by date when looking in the library view, there is nothing from 1980, as i said i wasnt even alive at that point...haha, but seriously, there is nothing dated wrong. i have gone through each event with the date messed up and there is no photo in that event with the date from 1980.
try picking a photo from one event were the photo shows the correct date in the info pane, make it a new event and drag groups of photos to the correct event watching to be sure it does not go "bad" - if you see the date go bad then it is likely that one of the photos you just drug in has a bad date. It you get them all moved and the date stays good you are ok too.
That worked i also had noticed an event which said it went through november even thought the last picture was taken in august. so im not sure what was wrong, but splitting it after the first picture then moving it over to the new event worked. thanks for the suggestion.
