22" Acer AL2216W Dual Monitor Set up - flashing - cannot wake from sleep

I have a similar problem to other posters here and have yet to find a solution. I have emailed Acer tech support to see if they have ideas.

I have a Mac Pro with the standard video card (NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT ROM VERSION 3011). When the computer goes to sleep, I can only wake it about 20% of the time. The attempts to awake the computer results in the monitors flashing on and off between them and sometimes a "no signal message."

I can get out of this by unplugging one of the monitors. I just tried using DVI-D dual link cables, not the single link that the monitors came with and I am still getting the same issue.

Anyone have ideas?

thx!

It's drivers folks and Apple needs to update them. It's as simple as booting into Boot Camp (using XP Pro in my case) and using the latest video drivers. When the machine wakes and sleeps in XPP, no issues. Only happens with the Mac OS.

I've searched high and low for alternative drivers, but nothing. Until Apple provides a fix, we're at their mercy. Hopefully someone will do something about this. There's tonnes of articles on the topic that can be searched with popular search engines.

PS - Apple folks, expecting customers to return hundreds of monitors for a non-trivial firmware update (which won't solve the problem BTW, I've been through it 3 times now) is simply unfair. Find out what the fix was offered for Windows and apply the equivalent SVP. Thanks,

Just placed a call with Apple Support. Was getting "annoying" enough that I wanted to do something about this. Again, no problem when in Windows through BootCamp when monitor goes to sleep, just in the Mac OS for what ever reason with my Acer Monitor AL2616W connected via DVI (single-link cable). I 1/2 wonder if the monitor being capable of HDCP might be confusing the MacOS drivers.

I was advised that Apple isn't aware of this as an emerging issue (at least in their internal issue tracking system) and asked to take my computer and monitor into a service center. I can do that I suppose, just seems like a lot of work and lifting for something that's on a 6/10 on my annoyance scale 🙂.

Haven't decided if I'll do that just yet. Curious if anyone else has done the service center route. Part of me wonders if they'll just tell me to buzz off sine it's not an Apple monitor.

Really hoping someone has the gumption to do this and see if they can get something formal logged. I like taking the easy way 🙂. Maybe I'll wait until I have a day when I'm doing absolutely nothing and take the whole kit-and-kaboodle in for diagnosis. Until then, just figured I'd share my support experience.

PS - The apple folks were very polite and friendly. Just couldn't help me for something that's not on their radar yet. :/

I have this exact problem. The only solution I have found is not to let the system go to sleep. Still have the problem at startup sometimes and it always happens if I manually power off one of the monitors. Tried PRAM reset. Tried some other reset. Tried Deleting the Apple Displays folder. Took it to the Apple Store and had the Head Genius look at it. Performed a system restore (will never do THAT again). Apple sent me a new video card. ALL IN VAIN! I have 2 20" ACER monitors and they work fine with this system.

Have you found anything else out?

I wonder if upgrading to Leopard will fix it.....

I had serious wake from sleep issues and found two conditions that contributed. One was having the USB cable connected to my EIZO monitor. Connect = problems, disconnect = radically fewer problems. The other was the use of a folder of .jpg images for my backgrounds. If I used them then I would get intermittent wake from sleep issues. If I "fixed" both issues my wake from sleep has disappeared entirely. I'm using a x1900 card. If you have a USB cable connected to your monitor you might disconnect that, zap pram etc and see if that helps.
