Unkown error (1453)

I apologize if this is an obvious or often answered question.
I just bought a 2GB Nano (my first iPod) and when I open itunes I get a message about an iPod software update (1.1.3), but when I try to install it I repeatedly get a
"iPod could not be updated, an unknown error discovered (1453)". I browsed through the discussions for a while and haven't found an answer. Any thoughts?
