Firewire 410-- one more Question. Frying Computer

To whoever owns this system- I am sure is familiar with the blinkig blue light. Do you keep the Firewire powered on ALL the time to avoid this? Do you keep the Firewire connected ALL the time. I am just wondering what you found works best.
To whoever doesnt own this system-- there is a terrible blinking blue light that flashed when you turn it off..very annoying. You would think to just power the Firewire down, but M-Audio warns and warns that if you do this it could fry your computer

well the m-audio web site says:

FireWire 410, Blue LED
Q: Why does the blue indicator light blink?

A: The FireWire 410 has a blue LED indicator light for power and two other functions.

1. If the blue light is flashing slowly, this means that the power button has been disengaged and the unit is receiving bus power from the IEEE 1394 connection at a low power level to maintain the connection with the computer, but the driver is not engaged so no audio will flow through the device until the power button is pushed in causing the blue LED light to stay lit without flashing.

2. If the blue light is flashing quickly, this means that the FireWire 410 firmware is not loaded. During the boot up process the LED may flash quickly before the operating system has initiated the firmware.

So it sounds like they think it's normal. Personally, I like the black marker solution, and I may even take it a step further and use good ol' duct tape.

I thought the firewire spec allowed for hot-plugging. Do you know if the potential to fry your computer by hot-plugging firewire audio interfaces is normal, or is it an idiosyncracy of only firewire audio interfaces from M-Audio?

TIA.
