Date

In a Date column: Is there a way to enter just the day for example: 5 and getting the following: 05/06/07?
Thanks.

Hi Ko Be,
Diligently I'm attempting to understand what is you're desired outcome is to be, but, I'm not completely sure. Would you be so kind as to further explain exactly what your wanting, and show the exact outcome you expect.

Using your example: In the cell formated as date only cell, when I enter the number, 5, it returns 01/03/04.

I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,
RicD

I think what Ko Be is implying is that he can enter the day number adn the program assumes the current Month and year. Am i right Ko Be?

If so, than no, you can make it create the date in a nother cell next to it by using the following equation (lets assume you enter 5 into A1)
b1=date(year(today()),month(today()),a1)

Hope this helps some,

Jason

Sorry, but your answer is not helpful. The Original Post asked a user interface (data entry) question. When I use Excel to enter data into a cell which is already formated with a date format, it understands that I want to enter a date and assumes the current month and year. Thus it is very efficient, minimizing the typing required for entering dates.

Sure we can add cells, columns and formulae to a table to separate the data we use (calculated) from the data we enter (the "5"), but that is truly a very ugly complication. All that was asked for was, how can I efficiently enter dates with retyping (or calculating) repetitive parts.

I don't know the answer, unfortunately. Apple has a great reputation for user interface coolness, but Numbers is starting to look very much like a not-quite-there-yet product.
