Canon MP180 Printer.

Canon MP180 Printer.

I've got a Canon MP180 Printer/Scanner which I've got hooked up to a Netgear wireless print server. If I look at the web interface of the print server (IP is 10.0.0.50) I can see that the printer is idle.

My question is, how do I add the printer under OSX so that I can print to it? Do I need to set it up with the IP address of the print server? Do I set it as a post script printer? And what about drivers - do I need network printer drivers or something?

MacBook Pro 15.4" - Intel Core Duo 2.0, Mac OS X (10.4.6), 1GB RAM

Install the appropriate Canon Printer drivers.

Run /Utilities/Printer Setup Utility to configure it.

What options do I need in the Printer Setup Utility?

If I do this it doesn't work:

Protocol - Internet Printing Protocol - IPP
Address - 10.0.0.50
Name - MP180
Print Using - Generic PostScript Printer

It just sits in the queue but never prints.

Why didn't you select the Canon Printer driver you just installed ?

It doesn't appear in the list.

I assume it should be something like 'Canon BJC-180' since it's a Canon MP180?
The closest one there appears to be a 'Canon BJC-80'.

I thought it was listed as 'Pixma 180' ?

What does selecting 'Canon BJC-80' do ?

sometimes if you download the apprpriate driver, connect the printer directly and then use printer setup utility to add the printer. Then go back to your original setup and start over.....

Well, I plugged it in via USB, and it came up as a 'Canon IJ Printer'.

But that of course does not come up in the printer list when I try to set it up wirelessly.
My question is, should I be able to choose the printer from the list, or am I mean to be navigating to the driver and adding it manually?

No - you should be able to pick from a list (once the driver is loaded). It will show as a Bonjour printer wirelessly
