My CD Drive on my ThinkPad has given up on me sometime during the 5th year of use. Apple tells me the AirPort Disk Utility (I am looking for the Windows version) is not available as a download. Does anyone know if this can be found somewhere on the web? Or if someone has the AirPort Extreme CD, if it could be sent to me by email? jwgosz@wisc.edu

Thanks,
Jordan

Hello jgowastaken. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!

The following was posted by another Discussions member earlier...

"My solution for obtaining Airport Utility 5.2.1 (your mileage may vary):

    Download airport update
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportbasestationupdate2007002forwindows .html

Download 7zip (Opensource compression tool - better alternative to winzip). Make sure to get the latest beta.
    http://www.7-zip.org/
    http://downloads.sourceforge.net/sevenzip/7z452.exe

    Install 7zip...
Run Airport Update. When it informs you that you need Airport 5.0 don't push anything!

Go to your temp folder which is typically found at:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp
(Substitute your name for <username> - it should be the name you log on with)
In the temp folder, sort by date and look for the most recent directory with some random name like "IXP691.TMP". Go in this folder and copy the file named "APSetup.msi" to some place you can remember (like the desktop or C:\).

You can now push "OK" on the warning box for the Apple Updater.

Open 7Zip and browse to the location where you saved "APSetup.msi". From within 7zip, right-click on the "APSetup.msi" file and choose "7-zip-->Extract Files". Choose where to extract the files and remember this location (e.g. C:\APUtil).

Go to this new directory and look for a file named "Icon.APUtil.exe" . This is the file that you want to run (you can rename it to "APUtil.exe" if you want). You may also want to put this file in your "C:\Program Files\Airport" directory."

I didn't have a problem not having the Airport Utility, I was able to install this somehow. Now however I unistalled it to get these directions to work, so I will have to fight that battle again....

I want the Airport Disk Utility, which is not available for online download. Can anyone email this to me?

    Thanks,
    Jordan

I have gone to a library and copied the contents of the CD onto an external HD. If anyone needs any of these files, feel free to contact me and I will be more than happy to set up a way to retrieve them.

I really like all the Apple hardware I have bought so far, but this is the only company I have ever run into that does not put drivers, software, etc for their products online, unless it is a program that does not require hardware (Safari, iTunes, etc). I understand I technically did not meet the system requirements (CD-ROM drive not working) but three must be people out there who loose install CD's, and to make them pay for software to run the hardware they paid for seems unfair.

It would be great to figure out a way to get the contents of the AirPort Utility install disk from you. What's the best way to do that? Thanks very much. Jonathan

I do have the same f*ckin problem... Could you please be so kind to post this CD on a downloable place, like Megaupload or YouSendit...

I would be very, very grateful, believe me, because I need the Disk Utility running on a PC.
