iPhone Antenna

Has anyone tried external antenna devices to boost signal? Wilson Electronics offers one for iPhone (you can Google) - $279! Is this hype? Can it hurt the phone?

Not for nothing, directly below that they indicate they HAVE tested it and give some numbers...

But sheesh...this has to be one of the ugliest things I have seen since, well, since, I dunno...I can't remember the last time I've seen something this clumsy and ugly...for 279.00 which you have to VELCRO or TAPE to your iPhone...

UM...I don't think so. Luckily, I've never had a signal problem with the iPhone.

How would you use this device in a mobile situation? The cable that attaches to the phone connects to a booster device. It would be very difficult to carry around. It may be useful in a stationary location.

Also, I just noticed in the pictures towards the bottom of the page, that the SignalBooster device may need another external antenna. This set-up is definitely only intended for a fixed location.

This was to be my "laptop away from home" if the annenta's detachable via velcro and I only have to use it at my lake house, the equipmenrt would stay there and be worth investment. They seem very adamant about the cuustomer guarantee - no problem to return if doesn't work. I have a Sprint cell, which I thought was the worst I'd ever had for dropped calls, but IT works at the lake house. Maybe a Texas thing??
