I bought the Panasonic HDC-SD1 from the Apple web site, thinking (mistakenly) that this camera would be easy to use with a Mac. All I can get is photos. I've VERY disappointed with Apple for not going into more compatibility detail.
Plug it in using a usb cable to your mac and open imovie the import window should come up. In the iLife guided tour it shows you how to import AVCHD from a similar camcorder.
Same here. iMovie 08 simply can't recognize my SD1 nor all its contents. Complete rubbish. Why on earth they can release such a product. Its ad and descriptions are totally deceptive.
I finally figured out the issue. For those who are still struggling with how to import to iMovie '08 from the new Panny SD1, just make sure you plug in the SD1 first until it appears in your Mac and then launch iMovie....Now it should recognize the camera and import starts !! Hope this helped.
I found that the camcorder does not appear to be compatible with the older (Intel Core Duo) macs.
When I hook it up to the older mac the camcorder is not recognised by imovie'08 whereas if I hook it up to my newer MBP (Intel Core 2 Duo) it works no problem. Both computers run 10.4.10
This means I have to copy the movies from the camcorder to my laptop then to my desktop before I can get to work. This is a bit long winded but it works for me.
I wonder, all those who are reporting problems, are you also trying to import to an "older" intel mac?
I am running into similiar problem. The camcorder when connected to the G5 only imports the pic's in iPhoto automatically. Not sure on how to import the Video's. Do I need a card reader? Is the Power PC the problem of compatability?
