iPod Not Syncing while switching computers

Hey everyone. i have seen it going around, that the iTunes update is not allowing many people to sync their iPods. Well i switched computers with my brother (cause its faster) and i wanted to put my iPod on there too. i plug it into my computer, and nothing happens. it just says "Found New Hardware - iPod" and then it says to install the software, but no software comes with 5th gen iPods, it just syncs. and nothing comes up on my iPod either it doesnt say do not disconnect or anything, its like it isn't even plugged in. it just charges. how can i get it to sync and everyone is saying to restore my iPod, how do i transfer that backed up music from my iPod to the new computer then if i restore it?
