Some of us can't use the earbuds that come with the iPhone. They fall right out of my ears! Will there be in-ear versions available soon that have the straight plug needed and the oh-so-cool remote control on the wire?
MacBook Pro 15,
Mac OS X (10.4.8),
My wife and I have matching models. Isn't that sweet?
I dislike the apple ear buds as well because they hurt my ears. I bought the rivet brand ear buds. They come with three different size silicone buds so you can use the ones that best fit your ears and they don't fall out. Also this set of ear buds has the microphone on the wire so they are extremely convenient to use when you have an incoming call while you are listening to your iPod on your iPhone. They are a great inexpensive alternative to the Apple stock ear buds. You can get them at rivetnow.com. They are $29.99. I think the sound is great. I haven't had a problem with them as of yet.
I got a set of V-Modas, because I also can't waer the Apple supplied ones. The V-Modas are fantastic. The cords are made of a fabric material instead of plastic. Very nice.
I whole-heartedly endorse the v-moda duos -- i've never worn a more comfortable pair of headphones.
But there are other options if you want to stick with the apple earbuds. In additon to the link above, Griffin also has similar earbuds that snap onto the apple headphones -- available just about everywhere iPod accessories are sold.
I had conteplated a pair of the V-Modas at first. But I didn't want to spend $100 on a pair of earbuds and end up finding that I didn't like them. So I went for the less expensive Rivet brand so I would only be out $30 if they didn't work out-thankfully they did. These too have the fabric cord as well.
Regardless of what you do, if you decide on a different headset then what is available as standard for the iPhone make sure that your choice also allows you to answer the iPhone in the same manner, i.e., with the headset button, that the in-box headphones do.
If you are merely buying earbuds for attachment to the standard Apple/iPhone headset, that will not be a concern.
The Rivets look good too. I wanted noise cancelling earbuds, and the V-Modas were available at the Apple store, without searching or ordering online. I guess I'm lazy!
Mikeab...I'd love to do an informal poll, but I don't know anyone of my friends who actually use the click-control on their iPhone headphones...of course, maybe everyone else does -- so I'm not sure how big a consideration that really is...the v-moda duo's have a microphone, and I don't even use that.
But you are right that if you like the click-control there are very limited options right now.
Very cool! I try to get to as many of the Olympic Sports events as I can at UM every year. It's tough to get people to attend their meets in a 99.9 percent football-driven school and town.
I for one, am a avid user of the click button. It is very useful for when you are in the gym and want ot answer or click to the next song with out having to pull it out.
Although I am looking for a new set of buds, I do appreciate the fact that apple used the similar design of the iPod's earphones. The first thing I felt when I purchased this phone and used it in the gym, was a target. I also felt like I might be showing off if I puled it out. So the look and design of these earphones made it easy to just slip in whith the rest of the ipod users with out being notced. The mic even looks like the cord tie on the orginals which is great.
The earbud problems are well known -- just take your earphones to the Apple store and they will swap it out for a new working pair right there and then.
