My iMac (Mid 2007) ejects all CD/DVD discs

I have had my 20" 2.4Ghz iMac (Mid 2007) for less than a week, and just the other day it stopped recognizing any and all CD/DVD discs I put into the slot.

It pops in like it should, I hear the drive is "looking at" the disc, and then ejects it. No error message, no icon showing up, nothing.

Just now I am testing my two World of Warcraft DVD discs, which I used successfully to install the game six days ago. They are not recognized.

My Powerbook started doing the same thing just today on the internal cd/dvd.

I insert a cd ... it spins up, reads it, even querying gracenote db for track info, shows the info in iTunes and then spits the cd back out.

I tried it with a DVD (movie), the disk mounts on the Desktop then after a few seconds is ejected.

I tried with an iPhoto backup DVD that I just burned (on an external DVD burner) and it ejects it too.

But this does not look to me like the drive is broken. It seems to be working like it normally does, but somehow the OS is kicking cds and dvds out.

I've just encountered this problem on an iMac 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo at work. Machine worked fine prior to today and is just over a year old. Symptoms appear to be the same: CD is inserted, computer appears to be attempting to mount it, then disk ejects with no error messages. The problem occurs in all user accounts, including administrative. If anyone has any idea of steps that could taken, your input would be appreciated. I manage a number of these machines and this is the first time I've seen this particular problem. I'd say the CD-ROM drive is used on a weekly (as opposed to daily) basis, so it hasn't been hammered upon constantly.

Same problem over here. My history:

- After importing ±200 CD (of my collection) into iTunes
- 1 CD wouldn't come out
- Finally Unmouted in Disk Utilities (where all the other options failed)
- Since then the problem as described on this page.
- Now they won't even enter the slot as if something is blocking it inside, but I can enter a DVD/CD for the login window (but then ejects it again).

My Intel iMac is doing the same thing.
AppleCare said to take it in and get a new superdrive.
They also assured me, that if this new one fails...they will keep replacing it.

I also asked if, the 2nd one fails, I can take an option to have a combo drive put in.
They didn't say no, but...that's for another day.

I have my older Macs networked to the Intel and can burn onto my CD burner on the G3, as a shared drive. So i am not without a burner, as some are.

Same problem here too! Is this really the drive?
My MacPro will still read CD's but refuses to show a backup DVD on the desktop. I can see the disk if I open up Disk Utilities, but of course can't do much with it! I can eject it if I hit the eject key.

I have a non-intel MacBookPro also on 10.4.10 and so attempted to open this DVD on there...only to find that like others, it just whizzes and then spits the DVD out!

I'm lucky or fortunate enough to have kept a lowly eMac also on 10.4.10, and would you believe that the DVD opened up on that no problem!!

Movie DVD's open up and play fine, so something odd seems to be going on! But doesn't seem to be a OS 10.4.10 problem or an Intel-only problem??

I'm have the same issue. I inserted a cd 2 days ago and it imported to itunes perfectly. Today I try to insert a DVD I have used before in my iMac and it makes a noise as if its reading the disk and then about 4 or 5 low beeps and then ejects the dvd. I tried putting the cd I used 2 days earlier in to see if it would read but it does the same thing. I restarted my computer and also unplugged the power chord in the back but both have failed to fix the problem.
Any help would be great
I have had this iMac w/intel alittle over a year

-- ps. I to have tried setting preferences, restarting and pulling the power cord, but alI to no avail. I'm new to the mac family and am still learning the ropes, is there anything else I can try

Those of you who took your mac into the store, how long did it take them to replace the drive? And also, were they able to identify a problem--mechanical or system related?
