169... IP Address from DLink Wireless Router

Hello, I have a very new MacBook Pro with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16ghz processor. I have had it all summer and had visited my college apartment throughout the summer to find the wireless router with 128bit WEP we have installed to be working great with my Mac. However when I moved back in for the year about a week ago I was able to connect but unable to get any internet activity. Upon digging around looking for the IP Address and all the tools to work with that I noticed that I was getting a 169... IP Address when all the windows machines, whom are functioning great on our wireless were receiving 192.168.0... IP Addresses, whats more is that the MacBook Pro while running windows in BootCamp connects to wireless just fine, and this same Mac connects to other unsecured wireless networks without a problem. I have tried absolutely everything I know and can think of, renew DHCP lease, Manual config of all addresses, IP straight through Gateway, DNS and Subnet. Also before I made the move I was able to share my connection from my windows PC to my Mac via crossover cable, and even now that receives a bad 169... IP Address. WHAT THE **** IS GOING ON!!!

ps. If you can believe it, it works perfectly fine when plugged directly into the router itself just not shared from my PC or wirelessly.

PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.9), Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16ghz

Hi

I have had this sort of problem on numerous occasions. In fact just recently we had this problem on our backup internet connection and your post help me resolve it. Our main connection was down and only two of our computers would access the Airport Router. The others had self assigned ip addresses 169 so they could access the network but not the internet. I called at talked to the isp for our backup connection and found out that or speed package only included two address or users. So I reconfigured the router to share one address and resolved the problem. So if the Dlink is in bridge mode all the DHCP address available from your isp on that account maybe leased or in use. If the Dlink is doing the DHCP you maybe able to reduce the lease time the DHCP. If you can admin the router.

I have had this problem at hot spots. Once at the Fairbanks Princess Hotel my wife was surfing away and I could not get anything but a self assigned ip address.

Blessings,
Greg
